Rebuilding Black Wall Street…an impossible dream?

Tell me I “can’t” do it and I’ll show you how I make it happen.

Black Excellence: Rebuilding the Black Wall Street

During Black History Month 2017, a flame was fanned in my soul, which lit a fuse that enlightened my mind. I begin to study, reflect, envision and write about the possibility of physically rebuilding a Black Wall Street in a major metropolitan city.

During this enlightenment, I received information from YP Empire about a casting call to participate in a discussion about Rebuilding Black Wall Street. I applied and was selected to join. The theme, created by Antoine Marshall, was brought to fruition in an interview facilitated by Shenise Foote-Vann, Founder of YP Empire, and filmed by Antoine. It was quite an honor to sit among the other panelists: ReeJade Richmond, Creator and CEO of Search For Her Existence, LLC; and Shanell Marshall, Underwriter at Comerica Bank. Several months later, ReeJade asked me to be her mentor; another honor, for sure.

The discussion touched on the possibility of rebuilding a retail, place-based Black Wall Street. We spoke about the idea of creating a virtual marketplace, as well.

I don’t believe in “impossible”. That word, actually agitates me to action.

Following the interview, I wrote

Map it: the modern-day Black Wall Street

in a LinkedIn article. Here’s an excerpt:

Whose city is up for the challenge to build the next Black Wall Street? Hands to the sky, loud and proud, crying Glory – it’s got to be Detroit. I see green in its future. Who disagrees?

If not Detroit, than what other city is on the verge of reclaiming the “Black Wall Street”?

And not just the city, tell us the neighborhood and where to find it so we can show our support.

I live in suburban Detroit, MI and operate Ascent Small Business Promotion, LLC. In 2015, I started my first blog. In 2016, I created #iGoaltend Magazine. This blog, Pep Talk with The Small Business Cheerleader, is my give back to the community. I’m a Grant Writer, Young Entrepreneur mentor, and Board Member (just ask me). I’m an Alumni Recruiter for Coppin State University (HBCU #CoppinProud). A wonderful husband, Ken; 5 children (4 are grown – we’re in the homestretch); 2 grand princesses; a big dog and a gigantic goldfish, complete me.
